PING G15 Series Pride Themselves On Fitting A Player With The Club

Today we are going to have a look at the big dog of the bag, the PING G15 Driver. Are you ready?

Like many of the G-series irons Ping has made in the past, the G15 performs well under every condition or lie. The technology of the G15 Iron provides the high-launching, maximum forgiveness attributes that bring consistency to your iron play. The stainless steel iron’s cavity design features a new Custom Tuning Port (CTP) which expands the perimeter weighting and increases the moment of inertia. The hosel has the same characteristic gouge all PING irons have had in recent years. The sole of the club utilizes the same font as it has in the past. However, the cheap g15 irons are not ugly. As if the engineers collaborated with an artist to design the club’s cavity, the new red, black, and silver color scheme highlights the new Custom Tuning Port. The almost rough finish to these cast irons is very cool in my book. The graphics on the back of the club face are interesting enough, but not overly distracting. Very similar to the i15 graphics, and even the G10 line to some degree. The same can be said for the G15 irons. That being said, a well struck 8 iron is not going to feel as buttery smooth as a Mizuno blade. These irons have a wider sole which makes them easier to hit. If you are a beginning golfer you may not want to pay the price for these clubs and spend the extra money on golf lessons. Ball flight is average and the golf balls land soft on the green. These are definitely better clubs to hit than the G10 irons, which is surprising since the G10 irons were pretty playable clubs. Average golfers will like these clubs quite a bit.

The new PING-designed TFC 149D high balance point shaft allows for a five gram increase in head mass (without increasing swingweight or overall weight) which results in higher ball speeds and an increased moment of inertia. Forgiveness is consistent across most of the face and most mid-high handicappers shouldn’t any problems getting this driver to work for them. The G15’s sound is more muffled and less “I just hit the golf ball with an aluminum can”-like. Since the ping g15 driver was super forgiving and easy to hit, I was really expecting much in terms of playability. When trying to hit certain cuts and draws, I was able to do so with ease, But in some cases, I think the larger head took control of my swing. The Ping G15 is a top class driver. It sits beautifully behind the ball, is as easy to hit as a driver can be and has the bonus of Ping’s legendary build quality behind it. The PING G15 driver seems to settle nicely, good amount of forgiveness, lots of distance, and still some workability and decent feel. When playing partners tried the club, they didn’t find that the club drew as much but they definitely noticed an increase in the straightness of their drives.

Esthetically, the hitting area remained nearly identical to the G10 with white groves and a v-shaped grooveless sweet spot. With a black crown, a silver, black and red sole, PING chose to continue the color scheme to their shafts. Even at that speed though solid contact sounded and felt like an explosion. This was not obnoxious but it certainly made me believe I hit the ball a lot farther than I did. The standard G15, on the other hand, will look quite pleasing to a golfer who naturally hits a draw. No worries about having to hold off the release to avoid those big hooks! The stock shafts offered in the G15 are ok but still fall a bit behind those offered in similar drivers. You need to get the best g15 driver fitted so you’re only hurting yourself if you buy from off the rack. Ignore the loft on the bottom of the club and trust the launch monitor numbers. Just like in the restaurant business, if you got good food people are gonna hear about you. And it is just a matter of time before you become the lunchtime hotspot. PING prides itself on fitting a player with the club that is exactly right for them; a PING fitter should be able to tell you exactly which loft is right for your swing.

If you can get past the looks of the super large head, then the Ping G15 driver should be one of the next clubs on your list of clubs to try out. And you can check the thesandtrap before your buying.
